Overview

The RII50520 Diploma of Civil Construction Design equips students with the advanced design and technical skills required for careers in civil engineering and infrastructure planning. Learners will gain the ability to conceptualise, design, and evaluate civil projects across multiple environments.

Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of professionals who apply specialised design knowledge and technical expertise to manage civil construction projects.
Students will learn to:

  • Design roadways, tunnels, and pavements

  • Produce 2D and 3D CAD models

  • Analyse and interpret engineering data

  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards

Graduates will be capable of planning and implementing innovative design solutions that meet complex project requirements.

Course Duration

This qualification is delivered over 52 weeks (1 year / 4 terms), including 40 study weeks and 12 weeks of holidays.

Course Delivery

Delivered face-to-face in a classroom and simulated project environment. Learners will work on real-world case studies using computer-aided design (CAD) software and other professional tools.

Entry Requirements

Age Requirements

  • Students must be 18 years or above at the commencement of the course.

Academic Requirements

  • Completion of Year 12 or equivalent, or relevant experience in the civil or construction field.

English Language Requirements

  • IELTS (Academic) score of 5.5 or equivalent (TOEFL IBT 46, PTE Academic 42).

  • Alternatively, 5 years of full-time study in an English-speaking country.

Learners will be able to have their competency from prior learning and work experience recognised in this qualification through the following arrangements:

Recognition of Prior Learning

Learners with prior work experience or informal learning may apply for RPL to shorten study duration.

Qualification

Upon completion, students will be awarded the RII50520 Diploma of Civil Construction Design and a Record of Results. Students who do not complete all units will receive a Statement of Attainment for units achieved.
